Today I bring you a mixed bag, much like the Thanksgiving day table if you do the potluck style thing with your family. (Still not sure what that stuff was in the jello mold from years past…) I have my thoughts on the Novembers past, what I as an author am thankful for, a recipe, and to top it all off some eye candy for dessert! So what are you waiting for… let’s dive in!
I sit here two years after I started doing the whole NANOWRIMO challenge thinking to myself how much has changed in my life. The challenge is designed to get people to write an entire novel in one month. I was totally on track two years ago…and then my house contract came through! It was a rush to get through Thanksgiving, get out of my apartment, close on the house and move in, all in about ten days. So needless to say that year I did not finish a novel.
This year was the year I decided to go for it and finally become a published author! And I did it! Of course it was not a full length novel, only a short story but none the less I had made a goal happen! For those of you who know me personally, this is a rare occurrence. (Sad I know, but I’m working on changing that.) Now by the end of the month, I will have a full length novel on it’s way to the editor!!! Yes that’s right, Hedge Your Bets is almost done!
I’ve been working on it since a very cold storm the week after Saint Patrick’s day when I had an old flame staying with me for the weekend. I began to think, what would happen if some of my other old flames suddenly showed up? What if I found them exactly where I had left them, only ten years later? Nate suddenly popped in my mind right where I left an ex, in the lobby of a Las Vegas hotel. Que creative juices and the beginning of a good old fashioned love story!
Time for the dessert! Kim it’s not the end of your post yet… So what have dessert first! A few piccies to tease you for the upcoming Hedge Your Bets…
I found this gem of a shot on a condo website of all places. It’s the interior of the Chandelier bar in the Cosmo Hotel in Las Vegas, where I have a few memorable scenes in the book. I had a tiny little get together here last year during the Naughty Mafia event with a few of my friends and my very first fans. I promised if I made it big we would return here for a real celebration! Dom Perignon anyone???
And now a ridiculously hot yet charming photo of David Gandy, the inspiration for my main male character Mr. Nathan Skye, in front of a Christmas tree. Happy holidays kids!!!
photo credit for this lovely photo goes to the Mirror.uk, covering a shin dig at Claridge’s, a huge and lovely Department store in England. See the article here.
And now, that part of the holidays were I state what I am thankful for. I know, I know, we’re all probably sick to death of it but none the less it needs to be said.
I am thankful for my friends and family, my health, and my nice comfy life. I am very thankful to my muses and the characters in my head that suddenly pop up and yell “Write my story!” I am thankful that I have the talent and drive to be able to write, something I have loved from the time I was a little girl. I am thankful for my friends and families support, they have been absolutely fabulous! Yes, even my father, the realist and practical voice in my head who constantly reminds me that this is fine, as long as I keep a real job. For now, Dad, for now. Mwa ha ha. I am thankful for all the amazing authors I have met through this journey. Mostly I am thankful for all the totally amazing readers and supports of the indie romance realm, who are a huge cheer-leading and support team, allowing us, the authors, to do what we love to do!
I may only have a tiny handful of fans right now, but I am SO THANKFUL TO YOU ALL!!! It’s your comments and love and support that keep me going on this journey. I wish I could say I do this for the art, and for the most part I do, but let’s be honest, my ego and muses are fed by you guys!
OK enough of the mushy part, let’s get down to some fun stuff! I am an amazing chef, at least when it comes to items involving liquid and alcohol, there fore I share with you, my treat this year!
A recipe for the holidays! Brought to you from Elaine Breson, an incredibly talented fellow author who is organizing the Utah signing I will be participating in. Check her out here!
